Chronology of Important Historical Dates
1987 Importation of Finnish Lapphund Breeding Stock into the United States, and breed registry established.
1994 Breed recognized by the United Kennel Club and put into the Northern Group (7).
1995 UKC, United Kennel Club adopts a Finnish Lapphund Breed Standard, revised on July 1, 2008.
2001 Finnish Lapphund is registered with the American Kennel Club as a Foundation Stock Service (FSS) Breed, using the initial registry established in 1987.
2003 Newsletter established for the Club.
2003 Lappy Summit in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, the first major gathering of a group of Lappy owners to celebrate and show their new puppies.
2004 Finnish Lapphund Club of America established. Constitution & Bylaws given initial approval by AKC Special Services Department.
2004 August 27, Finnish Lapphund UKC National Specialty Show in Ixonia, Wisconsin.
2005 June 16, First Specialty Match and Puppy Sweepstakes in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
2006 June 16, Second Specialty Match and Puppy Sweepstakes in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
2007 FLCA Code of Ethics established.
2007 May 4, Third Puppy Match and Sweepstakes, LaPorte, Indiana.
2007 July 1, Finnish Lapphund welcomed into the Canadian Kennel Club “CKC”, as a listed breed, eligible to compete in conformation for Championships.
2007 September 15, Finnish Lapphund represented at the 5th Annual AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day at Madison Square Park in New York City.
2007 September 29, Northeast Regional Specialty Match held in Westfield, Massachusetts.
2008 February, Breed Standard accepted by the American Kennel Club.
2008 April 25, Fourth Specialty Match and Puppy Sweepstakes, Auburn, Massachusetts
2008 AKC Board of Directors approves the Finnish Lapphund to move into the Miscellaneous Class with effective date of July 1, 2009.
2008 Official Parent Club Recognition by the American Kennel Club.
2009 July 1, Finnish Lapphund officially joins the AKC Miscellaneous Group.
2009 July 9, Sanctioned “B” Match and Sweepstakes held in Monroe, Michigan.
2010 March 19, Sanctioned “A” Match held in Louisville, Kentucky.
2011 June 30, Finnish Lapphund officially moved from the AKC Miscellaneous Group into the Herding Group, becoming an AKC fully recognized breed now able to compete in all AKC sanctioned event and compete for Championships and Titles.
2012 Finnish Lapphund Club of America becomes incorporated.
2012 November, Constitution & Bylaws revised. Approved January 2013
2013 April 13, supported the regular classes at Harrisburg Kennel Club as the National Specialty Show.
2014 May 9, FLCA Sanctioned B Match and Sweepstakes held in Topeka, Kansas.
2014 May 9, FLCA Title Holder’s Spectacular held in Topeka, Kansas.
2014 May 10, supported the regular classes at Sunflower Kennel Club of Olathe, Kansas as the National Specialty Show.
2014 April, Constitution & Bylaws revised, approved June,2014.
2014 FLCA receives IRS tax exempt status as a non-profit 501 (c) 7 corporation.
2015 April 30, FLCA Sanctioned “B” Match, Sweepstakes, and Tournament of Champions held at Purina Farms, Gray Summit, Missouri.
2015 May 1, FLCA Judges Education Seminar held in the Founders Room of the Purina Event Center, after the conclusion of our Annual Club Meeting.
2015 May 2, FLCA members supported the regular classes at the Spirit of the Heartlands Kennel Club at Purina Farms, as our National Specialty Show. A Parade of Titleholders was also held on this date.
2015 November 25, AKC Officially Awards FLCA Parent Club status as the Club has been approved for the holding of licensed championship point events. A huge milestone in the history of our club.
